- Onyx has bands or lines of contrasting color running throughout the stone contributing to its unique color characteristics.
 
- Onyx has glossy and reflective surface finish which deepens the color and contrasts within the stone.
 
- Onyx is translucent and has its own natural patterns.
- Onyx is a calcareous stone and prone to etching and staining from acids such as ketchup, lemons, household cleaners, etc.
 
- Onyx is a softer stone best placed where it won't be used frequently.
 
- Onyx is porous and needs to be sealed. Otherwise, it will absorb water and liquids easily which tend to stain the stone.
